Chinese Ambassador Yu hosts Women’s Day event

Kathmandu, March 9

On the occasion of the 107th International Women’s Day, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, hosted a reception followed by a special cultural programme here today.

Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar and Chinese Ambassador Yu jointly jointly inaugurated the cultural programme.

Ambassador Yu said Nepal had presented a good example to the world with women holding top posts like the president, chief justice and the speaker. The ambassador said guarantee of 30 per cent women’s representation in the Legislature-Parliament by Nepal’s constiution was also exemplary in that it had encouraged women’s participation at the policy-making level.

Sharing that the Chinese government has been conducting several programmes in aiding Nepali women, Hong added that China has also adopted a gender equality policy.

Further, the ambassador noted that China is implementing 100 health programmes in developing countries in the next five years. She also expressed her confidence that the existing cordial relations between Nepal and China would be further strengthened in coming days.

On the occasion, employees of the Chinese Embassy presented Nepali and Chinese songs and dances. Present at the function were various political figures, journalists and women representing different sectors.
