Chinese, British envoys meet ex-PM Oli
KATHMANDU: Chinese and British ambassadors to Nepal, Wu Chuntai and Richard Morris respectively, called on CPN-UML Chairman and immediate past Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter's residence in Balkot on Friday.
During the meeting, Ambassador Chuntai assured the leader, who resigned from the premiership just last week, that China would implement all the bilateral agreements signed between the countries during the latter's nine-month tenure, according to Oli's press coordinator Chetan Adhikari.
Chuntai further stated that the investments and developmental works in Nepal would be put forth with mutual understanding.
The envoy in an hour-long meeting with the CPN-UML Chairman also said that China would always be supportive towards Nepal, according to Adhikari.
In response, the former PM said that he was satisfied that various bilateral agreements were sealed with the northern neighbour during his premiership including the trade and transit one. He hoped they would play pivotal role in the development of Nepal.
“Both neighbouring countries, India and China, play important roles in the developmental process and diplomatic relations with both countries have equal importance,” Adhikari quoted Oli in his statement, adding “None of the countries should think that the agreement made with China will harm them.”
Meanwhile, British Ambassador to Nepal, Richard Morris, also met the former PM in Balkot today.
The British envoy thanked Oli for maintaining smooth relation with Britain during his tenure, Adhikari informed.
