Chinese education expo off to a start

Kathmandu, March 30:

Education and Sports Minister Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar today inaugurated the fifth Chinese education exhibition. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manandhar said education in Chinese universities is of the international standard. “The exhibition will help strengthen the relation of the two countries in the education field,” the minister added.

He expressed hope that the two-day exhibition would provide the required information to the students willing to pursue studies in China.

Madam Xi-Xui, the Chargé d´affaires of the People’s Republic of China, said that statistics till 2006 showed that the total number of foreign students going to China for studies crossed the 6 lakh mark and that over 18,00 of them were from Nepal.

Wulian Sheng, the deputy secretary general of China Scholarship Council, said: “The exhibition aims to inform education institutions and students about the Chinese education system and about the universities and courses offered there.” Twenty-one best universities in China are taking part in the exhibition and will provide information on subjects like medicine, engineering, language, culture, economics, science and technology. The China Scholarship Council, China’s Ministry of Education, the Chinese Embassy and the Arniko Society, Nepal, are jointly organising the exhibition.
