CIAA cuts down Commissioner Sabitri Thapa Gurung's duties

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has cut down the regular duties of Commissioner Sabitri Thapa Gurung after she was dragged into legal and ethical controversies for holding two jobs.

A lawsuit has been filed at the Supreme Court against her for taking up the job at the anti-graft body without resigning from the Tribhuvan University.

The CIAA has decided not to give her any duties as the Commissioner until the case filed against her was settled.She will now not be allowed to carry out preliminary probe and investigation on the complaints.

Gurung was a service holder of the Tribhuvan University and known to have taken unpaid leave instead of resigning from the TU service before taking charge of CIAA Commissioner.

As per the law, no person is entitled to hold two government posts at the same time.
