CIAA for citizenship only to genuine folk

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today advised the Ministries of Home and Foreign Affairs to issue citizenship certificates and passports to people only ascertaining the validity of their documents.
In a press conference today, the CIAA made public its recommendations to the government.
Citing instances, the CIAA said smugglers and others with vested interests have the approach to acquire fake passports and citizenship certificates.
It also claimed it had taken action against some government officials and smugglers. The CIAA said it has filed 10 fake passport cases and fake citizenship certificate cases during the last two years.
The CIAA also suggested the Home Ministry monitor its directives regularly. The anti-graft body also told the District Administration Offices to follow the directives issued by the Home Ministry.
“If authorities maintain effective records, irregularities can be curbed,” the CIAA said.
