CIAA raids police headquarters

KATHMANDU: Commission for the Investigation on Abuse of Authority (CIAA) seized all documents relating to the procurement of Parki jackets for police personnel from the Police Headquarters, Naxal, on Sunday afternoon over charges of irregularities in the procurement process. The CIAA had stepped in for the investigation after business persons filed complains of irregularity.

According to Bed Prasad Siwakoti of the CIAA, the Police Headquarters awarded the tender to Anand Trade Concern (ATC) which quoted Rs 1833 per jacket which is higher than six other quotations. Among the six quotations, Siddha Deurali Traders had quoted the least for the jackets at Rs 839 per piece.

A two-member CIAA investigation team led by Deputy Attorney Rajendra Kumar Shrestha has seized all 10 files related to the tender for further investigations into the issues of price and quality of the jackets.

ATC is run by Deep Bhatta, who is believed to be close to the police chief, reports say. The business persons have filed corruption charges against Ramesh Bikram Shah, Ganesh Regmi and Sitaram Chapagai.
