CIAA seeks Rs 97 mln bail from 3 former APF chiefs

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Sunday asked Rs 97 million bail from three former Inspector Generals of Armed Police Force alleging them of massive irregularities in supplies of goods during their tenure.

CIAA spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar told THT Online over phone that the Commission has asked Sanat Kumar Basnet, Shailendra Kumar Shrestha and Basudev Oli to post Rs 80 million, Rs 10 million and Rs 7 million respectively as bail to escape the custody during investigation.

"We have given them a couple of hours to post the bail," Pushkar said, "If they cannot, they will be taken to our custody for investigation."

The anti-corruption constitutional body has accused them of producing fake bills and documents to embezzle millions of rupees from the state coffers.

The trio were summoned at the CIAA office in Tangal today to produce their statements over the charges.

Earlier on December 17, the CIAA had recommended the government to suspend the sitting APF IG Kosh Raj Onta alleging him of embezzlement. Onta was suspended the very next day.

Onta had escaped the custody by posting Rs Rs 100 million bail on December 21.
