Constitution by July 16, states new CA calendar
Prakash Acharya, KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang has prepared a calendar of operation, according to which the CA will promulgate the new constitution by July 16 after cutting short many procedures.
As per the calendar, the CA meeting to be held on June 8 will send all disputed issues of the new constitution to Baburam Bhattarai-led Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee to prepare a draft of agreed upon issues with one-day deadline, said sources close to Nembang.
The CPDCC will table its report on June 9 at the CA meeting, which will send the document to Krishna Prasad Sitaula-led Constitution Drafting Committee. The CDC will be given only 10 days to prepare and forward the first draft of the new constitution to the full House of the CA, said the sources.
“In course of suspending many of the CA Rules to cut short the procedures, the time to seek people’s feedback on the first draft will not exceed one week. The time will be determined after holding consultations with the parties,” said the sources.
Asked about the CA’s plan on constitution drafting, Nembang said, “If the parties reached consensus on the disputed issues by Monday, the CA’s next scheduled meeting, the CA can promulgate the new constitution by July 16. I am all prepared for that on the assumption that the parties will reach consensus by Monday.”
