Consultancy operator held for swindling Cyprus job aspirants

KATHMANDU: A man was arrested on Wednesday for swindling many people under the pretense of sending them abroad for employment.

Based on preliminary investigations, police said arrestee Amar Bahadur BK (40) from Bhakilmi VDC-2 of Myagdi district had swindled 35 people promising them lucrative jobs in Cyprus.

BK operates the Amar Sumitra Consultancy, through which he collected around Rs 500,000 from each of the aspirants, according to police.

A team from the Metropolitan Crime Division had arrested BK following a complaint lodged by five of the victims.

Similarly, police said they have also received a complaint against BK for swindling seven others of Rs 700,000 each with the same promise.

It has been learned that the Consultancy was not registered.

Police meanwhile have sent him to Metropolitan Police Range in Teku for further investigation today.
