Chairpersons of the newly formed Nepal Communist Party KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal today directed the party’s Central Committee members to control corruption and ensure good governance in all three tiers of the government.

During the first CC meeting of the party held at the  prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar, both leaders told CC members to focus on the goals of social justice and prosperity, according to NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha. Dahal told party leaders not forget their ideals. “Often a party makes mistakes when it forms the government and this becomes a reason for the party’s downfall. I want you all to avoid such mistakes,” an NCP leader quoted Dahal as telling party leaders.

Dahal and Oli also told party leaders to honestly shoulder their responsibilities. CC members introduced themselves and exchanged greetings.  PM Oli said no party leader or cadre would be discriminated against.

Dahal said the peaceful movement launched by the former CPN- UML and CPN-Maoist Centre  had helped bring current political changes, which led to the establishment of federal democratic republic.

According to CC member Yubaraj Chaulagai, all CC members signed the party document required to formalise the process of unification at the Election Commission. They also submitted copies of their citizenship certificates.  “The next meeting of the CC will be held after statute regulation task force submits its report on the party’s organisational structure,” said Chaulagai.

NCP has not announced its 45-members standing committee yet. Leaders from the erstwhile  UML have picked members to be included in the unified party’s Standing Committee, but leaders from the former CPN-MC have not finalised the names of 19 members.
