Cop injured while trying to nab looter
Kathmandu, August 12:
A policeman while trying to nab a looter was injured yesterday evening. The looter was running away after looting two golden chains from a jewel shop owned by Mohan Baraili at Sukedhara, Jorpati.
According to police, the looter, who was later identified as Dawa Lama, stabbed police constable Shivalal Thapa on the head when Thapa tried to catch him. Injured Thapa is undergoing treatment at Om Nursing Home and Research Centre, Chabahil.
“When Baraili asked for help, the policeman at Sukedhara Police Beat, tried to catch him but failed. Locals later caught Lama,” a police official at the Bouddha Ward Police Office, said. Lama, 27, hails from Solukhumbu.
In another incident, a group of unidentified persons looted cash and valuables worth Rs 230,000 from the house of one Rishi Dahal at Shankhamul, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10, early this morning. Dahal hails from Salyan district.
Police said that an armed group broke into the house at around 1 am today, overpowered family members and made away with Rs 30,000 and gold jewels from the house.
In another case, police yesterday arrested Subash Gurung, 24, of Makawanpur, on charge of looting Rs 2,000 from Bhola Mahato of Bara at Chappal Karkhana, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4.
Police said that Gurung was running away from the spot after looting money from Mahato who was walking along the road.
