Cops foil robbery bid, nab one

Kathmandu, March 2:

Police held Suraj Bista, 28, from the4 Chabahil branch of the Agricultural Development Bank today while he was trying to decamp with Rs 2.5m.

Bharat Kumar Devkota and his wife Nisha had arrived at the branch to deposit money in Bista’s name so that he could show bank balance to get enrolled at a foreign university, police said. Devkota brought only five lakh rupees. “Devkota told Bista that he will deposit the money in Bista’s account only if he pays him Rs 6,000.” Bista snatched the bag containing Rs 2.5 million from Devkota as the Devkota couple was leaveing the office on a motorcycle.

Nisha managed to get hold of Bista. Police reached the spot when the fight was going and seized an Italian pistol and four cartridges from Bista.
