CPI(M) donates Rs 52 mln to quake-hit Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) donated Rs 52.14 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, as a support to earthquake-hit population in Nepal.

Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury handed over a cheque of that amount to the Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at a function at the Baluwatar-based PM's residence today.

The CPI(M) has asked the Nepal government to utilise its donation in construction of schools, health posts and residential buildings in Jhule village of Dolakha district.

On the occasion, the Indian Communist leader appreciated cooperation exhibited by Nepali political parties to cope with post-easrthquake crisis.

"Yechury said unity shown by political parties under the leadership of PM Koirala to cope with the great natural disaster is appreciable," PM's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari said after the meeting.

He also hailed the 16-point agreement signed by four major political parties on Monday to pave way for the new constitution.

Koirala, in response, said he is very hopeful toward future of the nation.

The Prime Minister also informed that he is all set to step down after promulgation of the constitution.

Meanwhile, various other individual s and organisations including Agricultural Development Bank, Citizens Bank and Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City donated to the PM Fund on Wednesday.
