CPN-U activists thrash PFN cadres, 5 airlifted to City
Kathmandu, March 31:
Five of the over 10 People’s Front Nepal (PFN) cadres seriously injured in an attack by CPN (Unified) cadres in Kavre district this morning were airlifted to Kathmandu this afternoon. The injured are being treated at the Bir Hospital.
Those injured brought to Kathmandu are central member of the PFN and the party’s candidate from Constituency No 1 of Kavre district, Kaman Singh Lama, Chandra Man Tamang of Madan Kudari VDC, Kamal Lama of Mechhe VDC, Narman Lama of Bhimbhu VDC and Raju Lama.
They were attacked by CPN (Unified) cadres while the former were on an election campaign.
They were brought to Kathmandu at around 2 pm.
While Narman is the central committee member of the party’s youth wing Akhil Nepal Janabadi Yuba League, Tamang is its district committee member.
Kamal is a member of the party’s Kathmandu-Kavre liaison committee and Raju is an active cadre.
A report from Kavre said CPN (Unified) cadres today attacked and injured Kaman Singh Lama at Budhakhani VDC 4. Lama, also a member of the interim parliament, was sitting in Chamar Singh Lama’s shop near Phoksingtar VDC when a group of CPN-U cadres led by its youth wing’s district president Sagar Lama attacked Kaman Singh with khukuris, said PFN cadre Tej Panta Kaman Singh sustained injuries in hands, feet and on head, Panta said, adding that five others were injured in the clash between CPN-U cadres and PFN workers.
Meanwhile, another clash ensued between PFN and CPN-U cadres at Banepa after the news of the attack on Lama spread. CPN-U politburo member and candidate from Kavre-4 Dr Lamichhane, Kapur Theeng and Praveen Theeng and ANNISU-R (United) central secretariat member Kshitiz Lama were injured in the clash.
Police said they are keeping Dr Lamichhane safely at Banepa, adding three CPN-U cadres
were arrested.
