CPN-UML MP’s wife commits suicide

Kathmandu, May 3:

Sushila Subedi (40), the wife of CPN-UML leader Prakash Jwala who is also a member of the interim parliament, reportedly committed suicide at her residence at Erahiti in Balaju last evening, police said today.

According to the police, here family found Sushila hanging with a rope on the first floor of one-storey house at around 5 pm yesterday and brought her to Siddhartha Hospital, Balaju, where she was declared dead upon arrival.

DSP Shivahari Banskota at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju, said Sushila had left a suicide note in which she had asked authorities not to question or grill anybody over her death. According to Baskota, the suicide note reads: “I am committing suicide as I could not get better although my family spent lots of money for my treatment.”

Family sources said Sushila used to tremble and remain anxious most of the time for no identified reasons. Sources said she was suffering from the disease for long.

Meanwhile, the CPN-UML postponed today’s sitting of the party’s ongoing central committee meeting after Sushila’s death. The party mourned her death and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
