Cry to ramp up women lawyers’ strength in state organs

Kathmandu, December 9:

The seventh national conference of women lawyers today formulated an 11-point declaration demanding proportional representation of women in each state organ.

It also advocated for ensuring economic, social and cultural, judicial and political rights in the new constitution. The women lawyers pushed for their equal representation in the judicial appointments as well as in the constitution drafting committee.

They urged the Nepal Bar Association to follow principles while forming different committees and commissions.

The conference also called on the government to implement the acts in order to abolish all forms of discrimination against women and to put in practice all the declarations.
