KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has noted that teachers have significant and decisive role in bringing political changes in the country.
During his meeting with a delegation led by World Federation of Teachers Unions (WFTU) President Mahfuza Khanam at his private residence in Khumaltar, Dahal highlighted the contribution of teachers to Nepal's political and educational movements.
Dahal said that Nepali teachers had sacrificed a lot during various movements in the country against autocratic system and the decade-long peoples' war, adding that Nepal had now moved towards the path of economic change after the recent political change.
The WFTU is to host its 19th world conference coming September in Nepal and its representatives who arrived in Kathmandu for conference preparations arrived in Khumalatar to call on leader Dahal. The former Prime Minister said he was pleased to hear that the conference was being held in Nepal.
On the occasion, Dahal also said that most of the party leaders were from the teaching background.
Likewise, the WFTU president said the teachers' struggle in Nepal was a matter of pride for the world. Terming Dahal as an ideal personality and source of inspiration for the entire teachers' community, she expressed her gratitude for courtesy showed by Dahal towards the delegation.
Representatives of WFTU, which advocates against imperialism, comprised one member from Nepal, three from India, and two from Bangladesh.
