Death in hospital sparks protest, one hurt in police action

Kathmandu, April 16:

Stating that doctors’ negligence caused the death of 35-year-old Bishnu Majhi this morning, relatives of Majhi staged a protest outside the Thapathali-based Maternity Hospital.

Khadga Majhi, brother-in-law of the dead, was hurt when police intervened in the protest. Bishnu died after giving birth to a baby th-rough a caesarean section.

The relatives calmed down after a medical team explained to them the cause of the death. Dr Sudha Sharma, a member of the medical team, said the relatives were convinced after the team involved in the operation of the dead explained them what happened. The hospital management and victim’s side sat for talks at 10 am. The talks ended at 5:30 pm. Majhi had to undergo a caesarean section due to complication in delivering her baby. As bleeding did not stop, doctors performed another operation immediately.
