KATHMANDU: The number of people killed in the earthquakes has reached 8,786, according to Nepal Police. The number of injured has reached 22,303.

Con artist arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man on charge of swindling a woman of Rs 2.18 million with a false promise of US visa and lucrative job in the United States. Sleuths of the Metropolitan Police Crime Division nabbed Naresh DC, 38, from Teku, on Wednesday acting on a complaint lodged by the victim. A permanent resident from Kotbaras-7 of Salyan, DC was operator of the Green Pages Publication House in Thamel. He had lured a woman of Lekhanath Municipality-12 of Kaski into paying him Rs 2.18 million and giving her passport for ‘the US visa process’.

Theft suspect held

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested a man, who was charged with stealing a Buddha Chitta Mala, from Gokarneshwor on Thursday. Kuladwoj Tamang, 28, of Mahadevtar-9, Kavre, was at large after Tilak Bahadur Lama of Shikhar Ambote-9 of the district filed a case against him at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division last month. Meanwhile, the suspect has been handed over to Kavre District Police Office for further investigation and action.

Currencies stolen

KATHMANDU: Currency notes belonging to a Chinese national were stolen from a Jyatha-based hotel on Wednesday. According to a complaint lodged with police, a group of unidentified persons had made off with USD 3,800, Chinese Yuan 5,700 and Rs 90,000 of the Chinese man identified by his single name Lulu (passport number 52G80253) from his room in the hotel.
