Democratise army, govt told
Kathmandu, August 14 :
Members of the Parliament (MPs), during the regular business hour at the House of Representatives, today said Nepal Army should be democratised to make it responsible to any government in the future.
Stating that democratisation of the Nepal Army was the need of the day, MP Raghu Ji Panta said, “Only introducing Military Act is not enough, the laws should be implemented and the army should be managed as per those laws.” MP Pashupati Shumsher Rana said the democratic government should take the army under its control. “Lot of provisions in the Military Act should be amended and provisions related to the Security Council should be amended. Modernisation of the army is also needed, but there should not be any political interference in the institution.”
He said peace should be restored before holding election to the Constituent Assembly and blamed the government for not maintaining law and order even after ceasefire.
MP Chirinjivi Wagle said the Maoist army should be kept in a designated area otherwise the CA elections cannot be conducted.
