Demolition of 2,636 houses permitted

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has issued permission to demolish 2,636 private houses that developed severe cracks following the April 25 quake and subsequent aftershocks. As per the latest regulation, those in the capital city wanting to dismantle their damaged houses or reconstruct their quake-ravaged houses must obtain permission from the Division of Development (DoD) of the KMC. According to Chief of DoD, Dr Uttam Kumar Regmi, with permission from the Division, one can benefit from facilities like technical assistance and help in mitigating risk for adjacent homed while demolishing one’s house among others.b So far more than 300 such houses in Kathmandu district have been demolished while 200 houses and 472 in Bhaktapur were razed to the ground, according to the District Administration Office. KMC has halted demolition of 91 commercial buildings which did not obtain permission.

Cyber criminal held

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Friday arrested a man from Gwarko, Lalitpur, for posting obscene contents on the Facebook page of a woman with the intention of assassinating her character. Officials said Arvinda Shrestha, 27, of Sangutar, Ramechhap, hacked the Facebook account of his female friend and posted obscene photos to the victim’s friends and relatives. He has been charged under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008.

Man found dead

KATHMANDU: A 50-year-old man was found dead in his office room at Manamaiju of Tarkeshwor Municipality on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar of Samari, Nuwakot. He used to reside in an office building of Nepal Water Supply Corporation in Manamaiju. Police said they have no reason to suspect foul play in the incident. The body has been sent to TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, for post-mortem.

Pistol recovered

KATHMANDU: A home-made pistol was found inside a well while it was being cleaned on the premises of Sukdev Pathak’s house in Kalanki on Thursday. Pathak’s family members had called the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, after they came across the firearm.The gun could hold six rounds of bullets. The pistol was rusted due to exposure. Police said they have launched further investigation.
