Nidhi defends statute amendment proposal

Bhaktapur, December 4

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi today said the government had forwarded the constitution amendment process to make the national charter acceptable to all.

Addressing a function at Chagunarayan of Bhaktapur, DPM Nidhi said the government had tabled the constitution amendment bill in the Parliament to address the concerns of the agitating Madhes-based parties.

Refuting allegations that the government had tabled the bill in the Parliament unilaterally, he said, “The constitution amendment proposal was drafted when late Sushil Koirala was the prime minister. The CPN-UML had also signed the document then.

The current government only tabled it in the Parliament.” On a different note, Nidhi said the government had formed National Reconstruction Authority so that reconstruction work could be carried out effectively. “But contrary to the government’s expectations, the NRA has failed to deliver expected results.”
