Detained with heroin

KATHMANDU: The Narcotics Control Bureau on Friday rounded up three persons from Gongabu in possession of 500 gram brown sugar (heroin). The detainees are Hafiz Alam, Prakash Yadav and Bablu Alam of Birgunj, Parsa. The NCB said it was the biggest haul of heroin in Nepal in this fiscal year. The street value of the drug is said to be Rs 3.5 million. Heroin is not produced in Nepal and is smuggled into the country via India. NCB officials said the trio was much sought-after drug smugglers.

Yarsa trader nabbed

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested a man for possessing and trading yarsagumba, also known as Himalayan Viagra, without obtaining licence from the government. The suspect has been identified as Pranil Gurung, 22, aka Bimal of Gaurishankar-8, Dolakha, currently residing at Baluwakhani, Kapan. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Metropolitan Police Crime Division apprehended Gurung with 2.9 kg yarsagumba from Thamel. Police said he has been handed over to the District Forest Office for legal action under the Forest Act, 1993.

Held for cyber crime

KATHMANDU: A youth has been arrested on charge of meting out mental torture on one of his female friends by hacking her Facebook account and posting lewd messages and contact number on the social networking site. According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Krishna Urau, 25, of Simariya-8, Sunsari, currently residing in Koteshwor, was engaged in character assassination of the woman in a dispute over mutual misunderstanding.

Malaysian arrested

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested a Malaysian national in possession of one gram hashish from Tribhuvan International Airport. David Nathony Santhivoo, 32, bearing passport no A240160670 was about to board a Malaysian Air plane bound for Kuala Lumpur when the drug was found in his pants pocket during security check. In a separate incident, police arrested three persons with one kg marijuana from Sundhara on Thursday. The suspects have been identified as Bijay Tamang of Dhading, Anish Shrestha of Sunsari and Udesh Shahi of Teku.
