Detainees run away from police custody

Kathmandu, June 17 :

Two detainees, kept in custody on different charges, ran away from the Kathmandu District Police Office on Thursday night.

According to the police sources, Purushottam Thapa and Mahendra Marasini ran away from the Kathmandu District Police Office custody on Thursday night. “They fled from custody after breaking down the wall of the custody room,” said a police officerof the kathmandu District Police Office. According to him, Marasini didn’t return from the toilet on Thursday night.

“When we searched for him yesterday morning, we came to know he had escaped after breaking down the iron grill of the toilet and wall of the custody room,” the police said, adding that Thapa followed the same step of Marasini.

Thapa was taken into custody on May 30 on charge of raping a woman at Naikap, Kathmandu, whereas Marasini was arrested on May 25 on charge of stealing property from Bardan Hostel at Maitidevi.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Mahat, accused of stealing a motorcyle, today ran away from police control when he was being taken to the Bir Hospital for medical check-up before keeping him at the Kalimati Ward Police Office on the charge of stealing motorcycle.

“No sooner had he got off the vehicle at Bir Hospital than he ran away

from the scene to Mahabouddha,” a police officer at the Kalimati Ward Police Office said.
