DNA test eases action against smugglers of animal body parts
LALITPUR: With the animal DNA test in place, action against smugglers who steal and sell different body parts of animals has been made easier.
The DNA test of animals initiated by National Forensic Lab from this fiscal year has eased the process to take action against the smugglers.
Principle Scientist Dinesh Jha said that the animal DNA test has enabled proper investigation, which in turn facilitates the justice system.
"Earlier, it was not possible to distinguish the flesh and other body parts of animals," he said. "But now the DNA test has made it possible to identify body parts of animals even if their forms have changed over time."
In the past seven months, DNA test of four cows and 11 wild animals have been performed.
