Domestic airlines slash flights for want of aviation fuel

KATHMANDU: A number of domestic flight operators have slashed regular flights due to shortage of aviation fuel in the nation.

Chief Executive Officer of the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal, Kamalesh Kumar Barma, said many members of the Association have reduced flights to cope with the crisis.

He, however, denied reports that operators had completely stopped services.

"The Nepal Airlines Corporation has assured us to regularly supply the fuel," he told THT Online over phone, "But, we have not received it in the volume we had expected, due to various reasons."

Barma informed that the NOC would import some fuel tonight as well.

"We have been repeatedly asking our members not to stop operation as we are receiving fuel, though not sufficient," he said.

Marketing Director at the Buddha Air, Rupesh Joshi, said his company is not sure about how many flights would operate tomorrow.

"If the NAC can bring us fuel tonight, we can operate some flights," he said, "Else, we shut our services."

According to Senior Sales and Marketing Manager at the Buddha Air, Parashar Jung Pandey, flights would operate only in Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Dhangadhi sectors.

According to the Buddha Air website, only a flight from Dhangadhi and two from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu have been scheduled for Sunday.
