Dr Govinda KC’s health deteriorating

Kathmandu, July 25

It has already been seven days since the government airlifted Dr Govinda KC to Kathmandu from Jumla for ‘critical care’, but not even a medical team has been formed so far for his treatment.

Kishor KC, an aide of Dr KC, said the agitating doctor’s health was deteriorating with each passing day and only resident doctors visiting him were examining his health.

Dr KC has been on a hunger strike since June 30 demanding reforms in medical education sector.

Meanwhile, resident doctors said Dr KC should be kept in Intensive Care Unit. On the 26th day of his fast-unto-death, Dr KC’s WBC count, sugar level in blood and potassium has got critically low.

According to Dr Laxman Bhusal, Dr KC has been losing his memory.

“He needs to be transferred to Intensive Care Unit. If this condition continues, he might suffer seizures and go into coma,” added Dr Bhusal.

Meanwhile, resident doctors and supporters continued their sit-ins and relay hunger strikes at different places in support of Dr KC today as well. Resident doctors have announced to continue their strike until Dr KC’s demands are fulfilled.

Doctors said the repeated fast-unto-death and this time’s protracted hunger strike have put Dr KC’s life at risk.
