Drug dealers serving college students nabbed
Kathmandu, August 11
Police arrested two alleged drug dealers from the Capital city for supplying brown sugar to college and hostel students in the Kathmandu Valley.
A special team of Narcotics Control Bureau apprehended Sanjay Prasad Sah, 28, and Ram Chandra Mahato, 65, of Bihar, India, with 310 grams brown sugar, from Koteshwor yesterday. The NCB said Sah and Mahato were caught in possession of 160 and 150 grams of brown sugar respectively.
According to NCB, they were successful in nabbing the duo through intelligence sources. Some other gang members associated with the duo are said to be at large. “They used to smuggle brown sugar into Kathmandu from Bihar,” an NCB official said.
Brown sugar fetches around Rs 400,000 per 100 grams in the gray market. The NCB said Sah and Mahato used to shuttle between India and Nepal to push the drug into the Capital city. Officials said an investigation into the case was under way and it could help crack the duo’s nexus with other racketeers. The Narcotic Drug Act states that a person in possession of 25 to 100 gram brown sugar is liable to a jail term of 10 to 15 years and a fine of Rs 75,000 to 200,000, if convicted.
