Earthquake victims remembered
Bhaktapur, April 24
The first anniversary of the devastating earthquake was commemorated by organising various programmes in Bhaktapur today.
The people of Sipadole village in Suryabinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur prayed for the eternal peace of those killed in the earthquakes at a programme organised by Women for Human Rights, Single Women Group in association with Help Age International Nepal.
During the programme, family members of earthquake victims lit candles in memory of Mangal Maya Khyaju and Punyeshwori Machamasi.
The programme was attended by Sipadol secretary Mohan Giri, Red Cross Sipadol representatives and other local stakeholders.
Participants shared their experience of the earthquake in the past. They also talked about their role as senior citizens in natural disasters like earthquake.
Sher Bahadur Thapa, president, Senior Citizen Forum, said, “When you attempt to save small things, you end up parting with much bigger things.” The programme concluded with tree plantation in memory of the departed souls.
