EC concerned about Tarai turmoil

Kathmandu, February 4:

The Election Commission (EC) today reiterated its appeal to the government to create a conducive environment for the April 10 CA election by holding talks with Tarai outfits.

EC commissioners also sought information from Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel about the government’s recent efforts to create a conducive environment for the election, EC spokesperson Laxman Prasad Bhattarai said.

The commissioners, during a brief meeting with Minister Poudel at the EC, expressed concern about the law and order situation in the Tarai. Saying that the law and order situation in the Tarai is not improving, the EC called for immediate talks with both agitaitng factions to ensure a favourable environment for the election.
