Educational consultancy operator held for fraud
KATHMANDU: An educational consultancy operator was arrested from New Baneshwor of the Capital recently on charge of winding foreign education aspirants.
Niraj Rai (29), currently residing in New Baneshwor, KMC-10, was operator of New Baneshwor-based Ahead International Education Pvt Ltd.
Students who were in Chile had filed a complaint with the Brasilia-based Nepali Embassy that they were left in a lurch as Rai had sent them to the South American nation with false assurances of education and part time job.
The Nepali mission had forwarded the complaint to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu, which later handed over the case to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division.
According to police, the 42 students were swindled by being told that they could easily enter into the United States, Canada or some European nations from Chile.
Police said Rai would be prosecuted in a fraud case.
He has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for further investigation.
