Educational issues trivial for student leaders
Kathmandu, August 24:
Students were forced to make political issues as their primary agenda owing to the changed political scenario in the country, student leaders said at a programme here today. They were of the view that petty issues like educational sector’s development cannot get priority, unless the political crisis, which they said is the root cause of all crises, was resolved.
Speaking at an interaction on ‘educational issues and student unions’ responsibility’, ANNFSU president Khim Lal Bhattarai said, “Educational agenda should be incorporated within the banner of the ongoing movement for democracy.
Gagan Thapa, former general secretary of Nepal Students’ Union, said, “Our movements in the past have always focussed on petty issues of students and if we still get coiled around the same issues, we will never be able to eradicate the major social and political evils,” Thapa said.
“For the last couple of years we have been fighting for democracy and other issues should not hold importance until we are entitled with the benefits of democracy,” said Kishore Singh Rathore, president of Nepal Students’ Union affiliated to NC (Democratic).
