Educationists want education system nationalised
Kathmandu, April 18:
People from the education sector today urged the government to nationalise the education system and bring about uniformity in the quality of education.
Guna Raj Lohani, president, Educational Republican Forum, said,”Corruption should be curbed to bring uniformity in the quality of education.”
Addressing an interaction on ‘Problems of Teachers in Private Schools’ organised by the Education Journalists’ Group, he said, “The government is not at all focusing on imparting quality education to its citizens.” He called for a drastic change in the education system and security of teachers’ profession.
Umesh Shrestha, president, Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON), said, “Teachers’ have genuine demands and they will be met.” “We do not need any private schools if the government can improve the quality of public schools.”
Sushil Pandey, education director of the central region, called for the amendment to the existing laws and regulation on education. “As there are too many private schools, we have been finding it difficult to check whether they have been following the rules and regulations.”Other participants demanded that the registration of new private schools be stopped.
