Kathmandu, December 26:

Eight persons were seriously injured when police baton-charged a rally taken out by former security personnel at Maitighar this afternoon. The police dispersed the demonstrators as they were planning to lead the rally to the House of Representatives (HoR).

Around 300 ex-policemen and ex-Nepali armymen, who were dismissed during the royal regime, have been continuously taking to the streets for a month demanding that they be reinstated in their jobs.

According to Hom Bahadur Bagale, president of the Central Struggle Committee of Ex-Policemen and Nepali Army victimised by the Royal Regime: “We had a plan to submit a letter of memorandum to the members of the HoR, but the police barred us from taking the rally to the HoR.”

“They told us that only a group of 4-5 representatives would be allowed to go to the HoR.

“Agreeing to the provision, we were ready to start the procession towards the south gate, but the police suddenly started the lathi-charge,” he added.

The Struggle Committee said that it would continue the protest tomorrow. “We will try to submit the memorandum to the HoR tomorrow,” he added.

During the demonstration, Ram Lal Raut, Ram Shrestha, Mrigendra BK, Yuvaraj Mainali, Kamal Poudel, Kesh Bahadur Basaiti, Jayendra Bahadur Shahi and Krishna KC were injured, Bagale said.
