EC suggested to spare existing parties registration burden

KATHMANDU: Political parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament have suggested the Election Commission to lift the provision of registration of political parties in every election and spare existing parties the registration burden.

They suggested that the constitutional body only register interested new political parties before the elections while existing parties complete in the polls just with renewal, without another registration.

In a meeting summoned by the Commission to discuss with the parties about the constitutional provisions regarding them, the parties had floated various suggestion.

Senior leaders of as many as 31 political parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN Maoist Centre and CPN-ML were present in the meeting.

On the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav expressed his commitment to follow the suggestions given by political parties during the meeting.

Meanwhile, media were not allowed to collect audio clips and take photos of the meeting as the  Commission termed it 'confidential'.
