Employees of local bodies announce stir plan

Kathmandu, July 22:

Local Bodies Employees Association Nepal (LBEAN) today announced protest programmes to begin from July 31, saying that the Ministry for Local Development has failed to meet their 18-points demands.

“We had submitted the demands to the minister for Local Development Dev Gurung some 25 days ago and furnished 25 days to fulfill our charter. But because our demands are being ignored, we are forced to begin protest programmes to exert pressure on authorities,” said Hari Kumar Shrestha, president of the LBEAN and coordinator of the Struggle Organising Committee while addressing a press conference organised here today.

According to Shrestha, their protest programmes include working at their respective offices wearing black scarf for one hour for three days from August 3 and pen down with black scarf for one hour for five days from August 6.

He also said their protest would be extended for three hours for seven days from August 12.

Shrestha said the second phase of the protest would begin from August 18.

“We would be compelled to shut all the works except the collection and transportation of garbage,” he said.
