End Violence Campaign objects to Prachanda statement
KATHMANDU: End Violence Campaign (EVC) today expressed objection to a recent statement made by Unified CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”.
The Maoist supremo, addressing a function organised in the capital on December 26, had said that their ongoing stir would establish “civilian supremacy” and national unity government even if the party had to swim in the pool of the blood of one million people, not just 10,000.
A former prime minister, Prachanda made this remark during the inauguration of the photo exhibition titled “From People’s War to Peace Agreement”.
“We are worried by such a remark of a responsible leader of the largest political party in the country. It is not justifiable to make one million sacrifices of people for the sake of toppling a government,” EVC said in a press statement.
It added that issuing a threat of violent agitation from any political party, for the fulfilment of their demands, was to play with people’s aspiration for peace.
EVC also appealed to the leaders to refrain from serving the remarks that incite violence and bloodshed. “There is no alternative to talks and peaceful means to iron out differences. Only a peaceful movement can bring about durable change in the society,” read the statement.
The forerunners of EVC include Kul Chandra Gautam, CK Lal, Rajesh Hamal, Hari Bansha Acharya, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Aani Chhoing Dolma.
