Engineers arrested for taking bribe

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Thursday arrested an engineer and a sub-engineer of the Division Road No 2 Teku on charge of taking bribes from a contractor tasked with blacktopping a road. The anti-graft body arrested the duo from Kalanki on the basis of a tip-off. The contractor was tasked with blacktopping Dahachowk Road under the Tridevi Road in Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu. The arrested have been identified as Engineer Lalijan Khanal and Sub-engineer Govinda Gaire. The CIAA is investigating further into the allegation, a statement said. Meanwhile, the CIAA has filed a case at the Special Court against Bir Bahadur Tamang, the then chairman of the Latidevi Lower Secondary School Management Committee located at Bhumesthan-9 in Dhading, on charge of embezzling government fund. Tamang is found to have embezzled Rs 238,898, according to CIAA.

NP, NSET sign deal

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police and National Society for Earthquake Technology on Thursday signed a deal to provide Medical First Responder (MRF) and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) trainings to police personnel. The training will be useful in carrying out search and rescue operations especially in the aftermath of natural disasters. DIG Madav Prasad Nepal, chief of Training Directorate at NP and NSET Executive Director Amod Mani Dixit signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations amid a function organised in the capital.

Hooch confiscated

LALITPUR: The Metropolitan Police Circle, Chapagaun on Thursday confiscated 120 litres of bootleg liquor from a bus. The hooch was being transported to an unidentified place in Lalitpur, officials said. No one was arrested in connection with the unlicensed liquor as none of the bus passengers claimed ownership. Lalitpur police has confiscated and destroyed more than 1,000 litres of home-made liquor in the past three weeks, it said.
