KATHMANDU: The first ever EU-Nepal Conference on Higher Education Cooperation held jointly by the European Union and the Government of Nepal successfully concluded in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The Conference, which was organised with “Building Bridges through Knowledge” as its tag line, was also complemented by a Higher Education Mini-Exhibition.

According to a statement released by the European Union, over 50 higher educational institutions, national agencies and associations from Nepal and the EU member states catered the visiting students with necessary guidance and offered avenues in various disciplines during the two-day exhibition.

The Conference was jointly inaugurated by the EU Ambassador to Nepal Rensje Teerink, French Ambassador to Nepal Yves Carmona and Tribhuvan University Rector Sudha Tripathi.

"The first ever EU Nepal Higher Education Conference has contributed to bridge the information gap between seekers and receivers of quality education thereby promoting new opportunities to advance knowledge for the development of Nepal," Ambassador Teerink was quoted in the statement.

In the exhibition, the European Union and the Erasmus Mundus Association along with other institutions also shared information about the scholarship programmes available for aspiring Nepali students willing to study abroad.

The EU is currently working with Nepal in the education sector including the School Sector Development Plan (2016-2023) and the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
