Ex-PM Koirala's funeral procession begins

KATHMANDU: A funeral procession of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has begun in the Capital on Wednesday.

Thousands of people including NC sympathisers, civil society leaders, industrialists and relatives are participating in the procession.

The procession that commenced at around 2:30 pm from the Dashrath Stadium  is passing through Tripureshwor, Putalisadak, Kamalpokhari, Maitidevi and Gaushala to Pashupati Aryaghat where the grand cremation will talk place this afternoon.

A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday had decided that he would be cremated with state honours.

Koirala (76) died of cardiac arrest at 12:50 am on Tuesday.

He served as Nepal’s 37th Prime Minister from February 2014 to October 2015.

Koirala was elected as the Nepali Congress President in September 2010.
