Facelift for Indian embassy on anvil

The Indian embassy in Kathmandu is in for a makeover. The government of India today approved construction of residential and office facilities on the embassy premises at a cost of Rs 1.25 billion ($28.5 million). The funds are for construction of the chancery, residences and common community facilities within India House Estate, an official statement issued after a cabinet meeting stated. “With the construction of the chancery complex, there will be a saving of about Rs10.46 billion per annum on rent paid for hiring residences and library-cum-reading room,” the statement said.
