Federal Alliance wants formal letter for talks with govt

KATHMANDU: Federal Alliance, the alliance of more than two dozen parties including constituents of the United Democratic Madhesi Front, said that it would sit for talks if the government sent a formal letter in the name of Alliance.

The decision was made during a meeting held on Friday morning.

The Alliance has also decided to launch province- and district-centric protests in the next phase of protest programmes.

Earlier, the Alliance had protested for two consecutive days outside Singha Durbar, the country's main administrative centre, and one day outside the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar to exert pressure on the government to address their demands.

Their demands include rewriting of the constitution to ensure proportional representation of all ethnic group, among others.

The Alliance has also decided to announce further protest programmes on coming Monday.
