Kathmandu, March 12:

The central committee meeting of the Federation of National Journalists Nepal (FENAJ) today welcomed the King’s February 1 royal takeover and promised to make the election of House of Representatives a success.

It also praised several policies introduced by the government.

The meeting also decided to award FENAJ Prize to Shishu Prasad Devkota, which carries a purse of Rs 10,001. They also nominated Jivram Bhandari as its central committee member.

The committee also decided to meet State Minister for Information and Communications Shrish Sumshere Rana to discuss about their problems.

Meanwhile, a day after the FENAJ general convention was held, Association of National Journalists (ANJ), Kathmandu, condemned the meeting, calling it “useless” and also demanded dismissal of the federation. A press release, signed by chairman Yagya Dhakal and secretary Dipak Pathak said the federation has gathered only party activists, non-journalists and also claimed of manipulation in the election.

The ANJ also said it was not associated with the FENAJ, adding that the newly elected panel comprises more RPP cadres than real journalists.
