Fire causes damage worth Rs 2 lakh

Property worth Rs 215,000 was damaged when fire broke out in Beauty Queen Restaurant and spread to an adjoining house at Baneshwor today. According to Shekhar Koirala, inspector at the Gaushala Ward Police Office, the fire first broke out in the restaurant and later spread to an adjoining house owned by Shantaram Shrestha. Electric short-circuit is reported to have caused the fire. Furniture and other goods worth Rs 15,000 of the restaurant were damaged in the fire. The restaurant, however, was not in operation for the last five months. Utensils, furniture, jewellery and clothes worth Rs 200,000 were damaged in the house of Shrestha. Police said the fire was put off before it could do much damage. According to Mangal Shrestha, a local, the fire broke out at around 3 pm and was brought under control at around 4 pm. Four fire brigades from Kathmandu, Pashupati, Juddha and Nepal Police were used to douse the fire.
