Flights put on hold as TIA closes runway for maintenance

KATHMANDU: Flights were disrupted at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) due to another round of 'repair' after cracks appeared on the runway on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a source at the TIA, the runway was closed at around 12:45 pm today to carry out maintenance works while both domestic and international flight were put on hold.

The flights resumed after completion of maintenance works at 1:20 pm. The operation of flights at the TIA have been routinely affected due to the recurring damages on the runway and the subsequent haphazard 'management' of the issue.

Tribhuvan International airport has developed cracks and potholes on its sole runway while a sorry state of runway and sub-standard maintenance work have been hampering many incoming and outbound flights, according to source.
