KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 17

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) staged a one-hour protest on Tuesday at the Kantipur Media Group (KMG) office in Thapathali, demanding the implementation of minimum wages.

During the protest, journalists conducted a sit-in for an hour in response to FNJ's call, with demands including the full implementation of the Working Journalist Act and the reinstatement of 86 journalists who had been dismissed by KMG management.

Additionally, FNJ has announced ongoing protest programs to exert pressure on KMG to address the journalists' demands as soon as possible.

Many of the KMG journalists who were terminated from their positions have rejected the agreement reached between the management and journalists' representatives.

During today's sit-in, FNJ General Secretary Roshan Puri emphasized that protests at KMG would persist until the journalists' demands are met.

Meanwhile, the Minimum Wages Fixation Committee has expressed concerns about non-payment, unlawful contract termination, and the transfer of working journalists, officials, and employees in some media houses.

Committee Chairperson Sangita Khadka issued a press statement today, stating that the committee has received complaints regarding journalists' transfers, contract terminations, dismissals without providing the entitlements guaranteed by the Act, and other related issues.

Khadka regarded complaints concerning the state's fourth estate as unfortunate and urged the concerned media houses to promptly and completely implement the Working Journalist Act.
