Foreign employment aspirants decreasing

KATHMANDU:  The number of Nepali workers going for foreign employment has decreased notably in the last fiscal.

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, the number has decreased by 94,174 this year in comparison to the previous fiscal year.

The Department of Foreign Employment shared that a total of 512,887 workers left for foreign countries in the fiscal 2071-72 BS.

However, the number of Nepali workers leaving for foreign employment decreased by 18 per cent in the last fiscal.

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, 138,529 Nepali workers left for Saudi Arabia, 129,038 for Qatar, 60, 979 for Malaysia, 52,793 for United Arab Emirates and 7,432 for South Korea in the last fiscal. Of them, as many as 399,406 were male and 19,307 female.

The reason behind decrease in the number of workers heading for employment abroad is availability of jobs in the country, said the department.

Furthermore, Malaysia is losing attraction as foreign employment destination, while the protest by the manpower agencies after the government adopted the ‘free-visa free-ticket’ policy also discouraged many workers from seeking employment abroad, said Spokesperson for the department Mohan Adhikari.
