Four detainees released after SC’s intervention
KATHMANDU: The four detainees in police custody were released today following an order from the Supreme Court. Bishwo Gurung, Ram Karki, Gopal Sherpa and Harmid Singh were detained by police under different charges.
Issuing a show case notice, the apex court on September 23 sought a clarification from the Kathmandu District Administration Office and District Police Range Hanumandhoka for detaining them.
“Since they were already released there was no need to intervene by the apex court,” Hemanta Rawal, spokesperson at the SC, told this daily today. Harmid Singh was detained under the charge of cheating in relation with a foreign employment offence, while the rest were serving the terms under the charge of public offence.
Stating that the police had detained illegally and did not file case even after completion of time limitation as per Some Public Offenses Act, 1970, the petitions were registered demanding the apex court order to release them.
