Generals assumed office as per the SC order: NA

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army (NA) on Friday told the Supreme Court (SC) that it reinstated eight brigadier generals to their job as per the apex court’s order.

Chief of the legal department of the NA, BA Kumar Sharma, furnished the written explanation, stating that the brigadier generals had been attending the office and performing their job as per the interim order of the SC.

"As per the order of the honourable court dated March 24, the eight brigadier generals have been working with the NA. They had completed their first phase of duty and the Chief of Army Staff recommended the government to extend their tenure," the written explanation stated. The NA submitted its explanation, responding to the show cause notice of the SC.

The generals moved the SC against the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Defence and the NA, after the government decided to pension them off. The apex court is examining the legality of the cabinet decision and also considering whether to vacate the interim order issued by it. A division bench of Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Prem Sharma has been examining the issue, as the government has challenged the SC decision to reinstate them. The final hearing on the case is scheduled for Sunday.
