German support for conflict-hit kids

Kathmandu, March 16:

The government of Germany has committed euro 1.2 million to sustain and strengthen the ongoing programme undertaken by the Nepal government and UNICEF

to support and rehabilitate children associated with armed forces and armed groups of the nation. Gillian Mellsop, country representative of UNICEF-Nepal,

said, “With this significant contribution, Germany and UNICEF are expressing their willingness to assist the government of Nepal in realising its commitment to protect all children from any kind of violence and involvement in conflict.”

Meanwhile, Verena Grafin Von Roedem, Germany ambassador to Nepal, said the work undertaken by UNICEF and other organisations to rehabilitate and reintegrate these children and youth back into the society was one of the most essential piece of the puzzle to successfully conclude the still fragile peace process in Nepal.
